We introduce some points to select ceramics or glasses in Q&A in this page.

What kind of ceramics do you have?
Pottery, porcelain and glass.
What are differences between pottery and porcelain?
Pottery is mainly made from clay and burned at 1,100℃-1,300℃. Some have a smooth surface with glaze, and others have rough texture without glaze. And it is a little thick. On the other hand, porcelain is mainly made from a kind of stone and burned at high heat of 1,300℃-1,400℃. Its surface is glassy and silky and thinner than pottery.
How do you distinguish between pottery and porcelain?
If the bottom of a work has color such as grey or brown, it is pottery, if white, it is porcelain.
What's the point of choosing Utsuwa?
We recommend a rice bowl, a plate around 18 centimeters in diameter, and Soba-choko (a cup for soba soap). If you are a rice lover, it would be nice to choose a rice bowl, and the plate covers different dishes. Soba-choko is also available for a lot of use such as for coffee, tea or sweets.
How to take care of them?
As to pottery, putting a pottery in water for 30 minutes will keep it from stain or smell. About porcelain, if it is painted, it isn't good for vinegared dishes as its color might be changed due to acid of vinegar. As to glass, please be reminded that it might be broken due to something hot. And it is weaker against shock than pottery and porcelain, so we recommend you to wash it carefully.
How to store?
It's better to avoid laying pottery and porcelain not to damage them. If you lay them, we recommend you to put a cloth or paper between them. Especially glass is better to be stored away from damage.
