はじまりは1冊の雑誌から
A magazine gave me a chance.
今年のＧＷに開催予定のイ・ギジョ作品展～李朝＆モダン～が
だんだんと近づいてきました。
今日は、イ・ギジョ氏の作品との出会いをお伝えしたいと思います。
タイトルの通り、はじまりは1冊の雑誌でした。
2011年に発行された『クロワッサン』です。
これにイ・ギジョ氏が紹介されていて、作品の写真を見たのが最初です。
品があって美しい作品に目を奪われました。いわゆる「一目ぼれ」です。
機会をみて、雑誌に掲載されていたイ・ギジョ氏の作品を扱っているというソウルのギャラリーへ。
そこで最初に購入した作品がこちら。
日本でいう鉢と飯碗といったところでしょうか。
本当は、もっと色々と買いたかったのですが、
「器は使い勝手も大切」がモットーの私としては、まずは使い心地を確認したかったので
まずは2つだけで我慢しました。
使ってみると、Very Good!
日本のものに比べてやや重さがありますが、
普段何気なく作っているおかずを入れても（盛り付けるではなく"入れる"感じです^^）
おかずが美味しそうに見えるんです。
で、次にソウルへ行ったときに再び同じギャラリーを訪れて
イ・ギジョ氏の連絡先を聞いたのですが教えてもらえなかったので、（当然のことですが、、、）
ネットで検索しました。が、いくら探しても見つかりません。
知り合いにたまたまその話をすると、何とその人が英語でイ・ギジョ氏の住所やメールアドレスを見つけて教えてくれたんです。
しかも、「メールを送るより手紙のほうがインパクトがある」というアドバイス付きで。
さっそく手紙を書いて、それを韓国・プサン出身の友人に翻訳してもらい投函！
それから半年はゆうに過ぎた頃、
「いきなり手紙を送って怪しい人間と思われたかもしれない」と諦めかけていたら
イ・ギジョ氏の代理人から連絡が。
「明後日に東京でレセプションパーティーをするのでよければ来ませんか？」
このとき、この店を始めてから1か月ほど経っていました。
レセプションパーティーは金曜日で営業日でしたが、
もちろん「臨時休業」して東京へ。
そして、イ・ギジョ氏と初対面することができました。
穏やかで、何よりも表情が優しい方でした。
次の年にはソウルで再会し、
さらに次の年にはイ・ギジョ氏の工房＆自宅へ訪問するまでに。
そして2019年の今年、ついにイ・ギジョ氏が岡山に来られます。
たまたま雑誌を見ていなかったら、
知り合いの人がイ・ギジョ氏の住所を見つけてくれなかったら、
友だちが韓国語に翻訳をしてくれなかったら、、、
色んな偶然が重なってここまで来ることが出来ました。
他にも手助けをしてくれた方たちがたくさんいます。
全ての方たちに感謝を。
The event, "Lee Geejo solo exhibition ~ Joeseon Dynasty & Modern ~"
starts at the end of this month.
I'll introduce you how I met beautiful white porcelain made by Mr. Lee Geejo.
As the title of this column, a magazin gave me a chance to meet his works.
The magazine is "croissant" published in 2011.
In the magazine, his works were introduced with some pictures.
In the pictures, his works looked so graceful and beautiful.
I fell in love with his works at first sight.
When I got a chance to go to Seoul, I visited the gallery
which was introduced in the magazine that they had his works.
And I got two items there.
They can be called a bowl and a rice bowl in Japan.
Actually, I wanted to buy more items, however,
I had to know whether they were good for daily use or not.
This is very important for me.
And they were so good to use.
They are a litte heavier than Japanese items, however,
they make daily dishes look much delicious.
And the next time I went to Seoul, I visited the same gallery again.
I asked them the creator's address and failed to get the information...
It was natural for galleries not to tell creator's personal information.
After I came back to Japan, I tried to find out his address but I couldn't.
Then, a friend of mine found out his address and his mail address in English!
Besides the friend advised me "A letter will be much better than an e-mail."
I wrote a fan letter in Japanese and asked another friend of mine to translate into Korean.
Finally I posted the letter!
And more than 6 moths had passed...
I began to think that he thought the letter was from a dangerous person in Japan.
But one day, I got an e-mail from a woman for him.
"Mr. Lee Geejo will have a reception party in Tokyo, would you like to come?"
It was about one month after I had opened my shop.
And the reception party was on Friday, which is open day of my shop.
Of course I closed my shop and went to Tokyo!
I met Mr. Lee Geejo for the first time.
He looked very calm and his expression showed his warm heart.
I met him again in Seoul next year.
And luckily, I visited his studio the next year.
In 2019, this year, I will welcome Mr. Lee Geejo to my shop.
There are many people who helped me to welcome him this year.
