イ・キジョ先生の作品の魅力
2016年4月29日から5月8日まで、韓国現代白磁の第一人者であるイ・キジョ先生の作品を紹介する特別企画展を開催しました。
先生の作品の作品はシンプルであると同時に、気品と温かさも感じられます。
白黒写真を撮ると特にその形の美しさが際立ちます。
この美しさはどこからくるのか、ずっと考えてきました。
おそらく先生が「本物」に触れた経験を持たれていることが大きく影響していると思います。
10年以上前に大阪大韓民国総領事館で韓国の作家4人の作品展示会が開かれました。
この4人の作家というのは、当時の韓国国立民俗博物館の館長に推薦された方たちで先生はそのうちの一人でした。
そして来日されたときに大阪の古美術専門ギャラリーで美術館にあるような素晴らしい李朝時代の作品を
実際に手に持って重さを感じながら、その形を勉強されたそうです。
その形を再現してはオリジナルと比べ、また再現する。。。といった作業を繰り返されたとのこと。
本物を見て、実際に触れることで今の先生の作品の原点ともいえる形が出来上がったのではないでしょうか。
器に限らず他のものでもそうだと思いますが、どんなに美しい写真を見ても、本物に触れてみないことにはその作品の本当の良さは分かりません。
器を作るときだけでなく選ぶ時も同じだと思います。
機会があれば皆さんもぜひ器に触れてみてください。手にぴたっと吸い付くような、そんな器との出会いがあるかもしれません。

We held the first special feature exhibition of Prof. Lee Gee Jo from April 29th to May 8th.
The exhibition aimed to introduced white porcelain of Prof. Lee Gee Jo, South Korea.
His works are simple, however, they have warm and noble atmospheres.
Especially, pictures of black and white of his works show the beauty of the forms well.
I have been wondering, "Why are his works so beautiful ?" "What makes his works so different from others?"
I guess the answer as follows,
More than 10 years ago, a special exhibition was held at Consulate General of the Republic of Korea.
Four creators were selected for the event and Prof. Lee Gee Jo was one of them.
During his stay in Osaka, he studied original works of white porcelain in Joseon Dynasty.
He touched them and observed a lot. After going back to his country, he made works like ones he saw in Osaka.
He made them again and again....
I think this is the time his style of white porcelain started.
It is very important to touch original works to know what they are.
